Assessing the Wheels of the Opioid Epidemic and Reversing It Through Nation-Wide Efforts

Introduction

A friend of mine who was violently injured whilst at work was introduced to opioids when he was discharged from the hospital. No information was presented to him in regard to the responsibilities of procuring this medication. When he personally disclosed this information to me, I took it upon myself to inform him about the dangers of addiction. Next, I thought, why does it take a friend, a simple civilian, to inform another person about the destructive effects of these drugs? Is it not the job of our doctors and hospitals?

Substance addiction runs rampant all over the world. It affects our loved ones and it is shamelessly and publicly displayed through news media. However, this type of addiction is silent. The substance is pushed by our own doctors and hospitals who are the puppeteers of giant pharmaceutical companies. They require a doctor’s signature and large sums of money to support its consumption. The pharmaceutical industry is in charge of making sure you come in contact with these drugs, whether or not you actually need them. Although they accomplish such mission through legal means, it is vital that we take charge and put boundaries as to what these companies can do. It is our duty to put halt on companies distributing these highly-addictive drugs as well as place responsibility to the appalling quantity of deaths they have already caused. It is also imperative that we take the necessary measures to make treatments more accessible to the public. Through these and other efforts, we as a nation can mitigate the effects of the opioid epidemic. Through this extensive research, I am now able to fully comprehend and inform others about the Big PhRMA companies who are behind the wheels of the opioid epidemic. I have also come across methods that have been designed in effort to reverse its effects.
